Courtroom
The specific room inside a courthouse where hearings and trials happen. Each judge usually has their own courtroom, though some smaller courthouses share rooms among multiple judges.
A standard courtroom has a raised area at the front where the judge sits (the bench), tables in front of that for the parties and lawyers, a witness stand off to the side, a jury box (a row of chairs for jurors) when juries are involved, and seating for the public in the back.
Courtrooms are mostly open to the public. Anyone can typically walk in, sit in the back, and watch: though some kinds of cases (juvenile, certain family matters) are closed.
